Schnitzer Watch
Welcome to Schnitzer Watch, the place to get the facts about the Oakland A’s lawsuit about Schnitzer Steel’s activities in West Oakland.
Schnitzer runs the largest metal recycling facility in California less than a mile away from approximately 23,000 West Oakland residents. Government regulators have repeatedly found the facility to generate materials that exceed the toxicity thresholds for hazardous waste.
Sign the Petition!
Demand the California Department of Toxic Substances Control enforce the Hazardous Waste Control Law and address the “substantial risk to nearby communities” that metal shredding activities like Schnitzer’s hazardous waste management practices pose, as DTSC itself found. West Oakland residents deserve clean air and water! Schnitzer must be required to comply with the Hazardous Waste Control Law.
